Joint Mold Alex managers Mike Cunningham and Neil Wynne are very aware of the situation their club is in. With six games to play they are in a relegation battle, and face the prospect of dropping down to the third tier next season.
If they are to survive the drop, a run of good results must start in an all important six pointer against Buckley Town, who sit just above Mold in 14th place.
Y Clwb Pel Droed caught up with joint Mold-Alex manager Mike Cunningham ahead of the game.
Mold come into the game off the back of a defeat to Derby rivals Ruthin, which was also a crucial relegation game. Cunningham doesn’t pull any punches when reflecting on the game, and concedes Mold were second best.
“Yes extremely disappointed but we can have no complaints we were beaten by the better side on the day and we must pick ourselves up and go again.”
“I don’t think anything went right for us on the day, we played to many aimless long balls, made the wrong decision at the both ends of the pitch we just couldn’t get going, credit to Chris Williams and Ruthin.
Cunningham doesn’t need to be told how big Saturday’s game is, with a win potentially putting them within 3 points of 12th, the first spot of safety currently occupied by Ruthin.
“Saturday is as big as they come, derby game, and relegation six pointer so it’s important for both sides to pick up a win, but we need to bounce back and show some fight and pick up the 3 points.”
The joint manager is predicting Buckley to be right up for it after they shocked Conwy Borough with a late 1-0 victory last weekend.
“Buckley will come bouncing into the game after there last gasp win so we will need to manage that, we have had a difficult time of late but the lads are determined to bounce back.”
The game kicks off at Buckley Town’s Globe ground on 2:30pm on Saturday 18 March.
