Abergavenny Town have confirmed Ben Bannon as their new first team manager ahead of the new season, following a meeting between the club’s committee and players.
Bannon takes the hot seat at the Welsh League Division Two outfit alongside returning assistant Kevin Hudson, who is back at the club following a season away, while Phil Hemmings is set to resume duties as development squad manager.
The appointment of Bannon is understood to be popular with the players, who will also hope to benefit from Hudson’s 35 years of coaching experience, which included a hugely successful spell as first team boss during the ‘Invincibles season’ in 2015/16, where Aber earned promotion and lifted the FAW Trophy.
Speaking on his return to the club, Hudson emphasised his “total respect” for new boss Bannon, adding that he is excited about the season ahead.
He said: “I appreciate tough times may be ahead of us, but Ben and Phil encouraged me to return to the fold and I am pleased to offer them my support and experience.”
“I couldn’t see the club struggle after all the hard work everyone has put in, both on and off the field, over the last three seasons since The Town was formed.”
The players will return to pre-season training at Pen Y Pound on June 26th, ahead of the first summer friendly on July 11 at home to Merthyr Town.
