Bangor City FC have announced a testimonial match for legendary ex player and manager Nev Powell.
The club announced the news earlier this week, much to the delight of supporters who will be given an opportunity to thank the Bangor stalwart.
It is a match that will honour the commitment that Nev Powell brought to the club, both as a player and manager.
The friendly will pit a Bangor XI against current Premier League Two champions Everton U23s, managed by ex Everton, West Ham, Portsmouth and Sheffield United defender David Unsworth.
Nathan Broadhead is also part of the successful U23 squad, having been born in Bangor and played for the club, like his grandfather Tony.
Broadhead has since gone on to play for Wales in the Victory Shield, scoring a stunning goal at Nantporth, where he will be returning, as Wales U16s beat rivals England.
Wales U21 captain Gethin Jones will also be part of the Everton squad that will be travelling to Bangor City.
And Bangor fans may get the chance to watch up and coming stars including Tom Davies, Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway who all featured in Ronald Koeman’s first team during the 2016/17 Premier League season.
The game will honour Powell, who already has club legend status at Nantporth having enjoyed a successful playing and managerial career with the Citizens.
He started his career with Tranmere Rovers as a commanding midfielder, making the move to Bangor’s then Farrar Road home in 1984. Spending the next seasons at Bangor, he featured in some of the club’s greatest European games against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid and Norway’s Fredrikstad.
Powell left Bangor for Connah’s Quay who he would go on to manage until 2007, when Bangor came knocking for Powell to return as the Citizen’s boss.
As manager he secured three consecutive Welsh Cup wins as well as a Welsh Premier League title when Bangor beat TNS in a dramatic final day of the 2010/11 season.
The game will be played at the Bangor University Stadium on Saturday 5 August for a 3:00pm kick off.
