Gresford manager Steve Halliwell was disappointed with last week’s performance at Porthmadog but is excited at the test his side face against Denbigh this weekend.
The Huws Gray Alliance 2017/18 manager of the year knows how tough this season will be for them and is looking forward to the challenge ahead with the North Wales club.
“I’m very disappointed with the result and disappointed with the outcome losing two players due to suspensions and injuries.”
This Friday evening Gresford welcome Denbigh to Chappers Lane, where former manager Eddie-Maurice-Jones returns back to the club he once was a manager of and Halliwell is expecting a tough match against Maurice-Jones’ Denbigh outfit.
“As with the previous meeting last season I expect a full blooded and closely fought game, I’m sure both me and Eddie will expecting a difficult game, and both of us will be doing our upmost to gain the three points.
It’s vital to get points on board early doors as the league is ultra competitive and if you go on a bad run of results your looking ahead to the future games thinking where can we get a win!
At this time round literally anyone beats anyone, but with each game brings a new challenge which we are all up for and very excited about.”
The Gresford boss has strengthened his side this summer and admits all five of his signings bring something different to his squad.
“We have brought in five and all offer us something different we have youth and a determination to do well with Adam Davies and Jack Edwards and Joe Williams, we have a proven experienced goal scorer in Aaron Edwards who leads the line so well and his hold up play and ability to link others in is exceptional.
In Simon Smith we have a fantastic athlete and will cause all kinds of problems for teams this season, he’s tenacious skinful and committed and as a manager you cannot ask for more.”
It was an impressive season for the club last season, but Halliwell admits he wants to equal or better last season’s finish and to be competitive in all the competitions the club is in.
“Ambitions for the season – I’ve said that we would do very well to equal or better last seasons points total of 56, And we’re definitely looking to compete in all competitions with a view to picking up some more silverware come the end of season!”
