There was an action packed night of Nathaniel MG Cup encounters as Welsh Premier League sides Newtown, Cardiff Met, Connah’s Quay Nomads and The New saints all progressed.
We have the full round-up of all of last night’s game below…
The New Saints 2-0 Caernarfon
The New Saints put in a professional display against Huws Gray Cymru Alliance outfit Caernarfon, but The New saints were made to work to progress to the next round of the Nathaniel MG Cup with the Welsh Premier League’s top scorer Chris Seargeant scoring from the spot and Alex Darlington adding a second late on to send Scott Ruscoe’s troops through.
Next up for the defending Welsh Premier League Champions is a mammoth clash at home against Cardiff MET as the top two meet at Park Hall.
Barry Town United 0-2 Cardiff Met
The students continued took their impressive form from the league into the Nathaniel MG Cup as they defeated Barry Town United 2-0 at Jenner Park courtesy of goals from Chris Baker and Emilyn Lewis.
Barry started well and should have scored inside the opening minutes but Louis Gerrard spurred a great chance as he hit his shot inches over the bar from close range and the students made them pay as a fine finish from Chris Baker and defender Emilyn Lewis poked home from a corner as Christian Edwards’ side progressed.
Carmarthen Town 0-2 Newtown
in the other all Welsh Premier League clash, it was Newtown who progressed as goals from Ryan Kershaw and Nick Rushton helped Chris Hughes’ side advance into the semi-final.
They have struggled in the Welsh Premier League thus far but a speculative effort from Kershaw meant the visitors took the lead before Rushton headed home to compile more misery on Carmarthen Town as they were knocked out of the Nathaniel MG Cup.
Airbus UK Broughton 0-2 Connah’s Quay Nomads
Connah’s Quay Nomads knocked out Huws Gray Cymru Alliance side Airbus UK Broughton as goals from Callum Morris and Michael Wilde were enough to send through Andy Morrison’s side.
Morris headed home from Matty Owen’s cross before Micheal Wilde made sure that they progressed as full-time approached at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium – they next travel to Barry Town United in the Welsh Premier League.
