Award-winning Y Clwb Pel-droed has been championing Welsh football since 2015.

What began as a simple Twitter page quickly grew into something much bigger. In 2016, the same unforgettable summer the Welsh national team made history by reaching the semi-finals of EURO 2016, Y Clwb Pêl-droed launched its official website, creating a dedicated platform to celebrate the domestic and national game in Wales.

Founded by Jordan Jones, with Nick Davies soon coming on board to formalise and develop the website, YCPD evolved from a social media hub sharing football news into a fully-fledged content platform. With a stronger emphasis on original reporting, its contributors began setting the agenda, producing their own stories, shining a spotlight on underrepresented clubs, and giving a voice to teams and communities often overlooked elsewhere.

Y Clwb Pêl-droed has proudly helped launch the careers of countless aspiring journalists, providing a platform where talent can flourish and ambitions can take flight. Many former contributors have gone on to secure roles with the Football Association of Wales, while others now work across leading organisations, including BBC Sport Wales, Cardiff City, Wrexham, the Daily Echo in Southampton, National World, Newsquest, Haverfordwest County and more.

Their success stands as a testament to the opportunity, experience and belief fostered at Y Clwb Pêl-droed.

Y Clwb Pêl-droed’s growth

As its reputation grew, so did its team. An army of passionate volunteers joined the project, and by 2017, YCPD had become a valuable training ground for Sports Journalism students at the University of South Wales. Operating like a professional newsroom, it offered aspiring journalists from across Wales the opportunity to hone their craft in a real-world environment while contributing meaningful coverage to the Welsh football landscape.

Recognition soon followed. In 2019, Y Clwb Pêl-droed was nominated for both Vlog/Blog of the Year and News Website of the Year, competing with the likes of the BBC and WalesOnline in the Wales Media Awards.

In 2020, legendary photographer Matthew Lofthouse earned a nomination for Photographer of the Year. Over the years, YCPD has also received multiple nominations at the prestigious Football Content Awards, a testament to its quality, consistency and impact.

Now, in 2026, the landscape has evolved once again. While the website remains at its heart, Y Clwb Pêl-droed has expanded across platforms, thanks to Harrison Jones. A growing YouTube presence is underway, and its Instagram, TikTok and Facebook channels continue to go from strength to strength, reaching new audiences while staying true to its mission.

At its core, Y Clwb Pêl-droed remains what it has always been: a passionate, community-driven platform dedicated to telling the stories of Welsh football, at every level.
