Recently promoted Cardiff City are to play Welsh League Division One side Taffs Well for a second year running in a pre-season friendly.
The Wellmen, who finished 10th in Division One last season, will be the Bluebirds’ first test before they travel to Cornwall, as preparations get underway for Cardiff’s first top-flight campaign in four years.
The Bluebirds travelled to Rhiw’r Ddar last season, where they overcame the second tier outfit in a narrow 1-0 victory, with Anthony Pilkington scoring the winner.
Cardiff brought a handful of first-team players, including signings like Loic Damour, Danny Ward, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Neil Etheridge.
Boss Neil Warnock was impressed by how the fixture went last time out, and was keen to return after the capital team united with the grassroots club.
Cardiff City confirmed the news on their official website, with Taffs Well delighted to host the fixture for the second time:
“We can not express how delighted we are to welcome Premier League side Cardiff City back to the club on Friday 13th July 7 pm k.o to start their pre season.
More details will follow.”
The last fixture saw Rhiw’r Ddar sold out, with over 2000 spectators at the ground that day. The Capital club later went on to win promotion to the English Premier League, after finishing second in the Sky Bet Championship.
“Absolutely lost for words that @CardiffCityFC will be returning to @Taffswellfc for another pre-season friendly,” said Taffs Well boss Nana Baah on the Bluebirds’ return.
Ticket details are expected to be released next month.
