Barry Town United add legendary Welsh Premier League goalkeeper Lee Kendall to coaching staff

Former Welsh Premier League goalkeeper Lee Kendall has joined Gavin Chesterfield’s coaching staff, as his goalkeeping coach.

The 37-year-old returns to Bary Town United, having played a total of 14 times back in 2000, after signing on loan from Crystal Palace.

Kendall had recently been working in a similar role with reigning Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints. He had previously worked at Sheffield United, Cardiff City and Bristol City, as well as the England Women’s National Football Team.

“I’m pleased to have Kends join the backroom team,” said manager Chesterfield.

I’ve known him for a long time and seen his quality first hand, he’s a significant boost to our already strong coaching staff and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

During his time at Barry Town United, he made an appearance for the Linnets in UEFA Cup, against Portuguese side Boavista.

In Kendall’s career, he made a total of 274 appearances in the Welsh top flight. The majority of his playing career came when he played at Haverfordwest County for four years. After leaving the Bluebirds, he played for Rhyl, where he played in Europe again, against Partizan Belgrade.

“I loved my time here as a player, my abiding memory was how fantastic the supporters were,said Kendall.

When Gav asked me to come back to the club I had no hesitation in accepting the offer. I hope I can play a small part in helping the club to continue their ever building success.”
