Gavin Chesterfield was ecstatic that his side continued their perfect start at home in the JD Welsh Premier League – with Carmarthen Town being the latest side to fall casualty at their Jenner Park fortress.
In a tightly-fought contest, Chris Hugh scored his first goal of the season as the Linnets secured all three points against a well-organised Old Gold side as they moved back up to third place in the JD Welsh Premier League table.
And the Barry Town United manager was thrilled with the performance of his side as they responded to last week’s 2-0 loss to Newtown at Latham Park.
“It was a great response, I was delighted with the performance today,” he said.
“Carmarthen are a good team and I think today we have been more dominant, we probably didn’t create loads of chances, but neither have they and I think in those conditions it was always going to be tough for both teams.
“But getting back to Jenner Park was important for us and it was a great response to what was last week probably a disappointing showing from ourselves.”

“Anybody can dream but the truth be told, we are a third of a way into the season, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” insisted Chesterfield.
“The key thing for us is whether we beat what we did last season and if we can do that, we are progressing. We feel we are a stronger and more experienced unit, so why not.
“But at the moment, we have to take things step-by-step, game-by-game and let’s look forward to Llanelli on Friday night.”
Chesterfield also praised how well worked Barry’s goal was as full-back Hugh bagged his first goal of the campaign in the win over the Old Gold.
“I am delighted. Chris is a good player and a great lad.
“In those conditions, it is difficult to switch the play and get your full-backs out at times but it is the type of thing we work on and to see our full-back getting in that position and finishing, is pleasing to see.
“It is a really good team goal from us, even though Chris will get the plaudits from putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Next up for Gavin Chesterfield and his men is bottom-placed Llanelli Town on Friday night and in spite of their current league position, the Barry manager will not underestimate them at any costs.
“Let’s show them respect, they have got good players and they’re a well-organised unit,” he said.
“There aren’t any easy games in the Welsh Premier League. I have learned that from our short time in it. It is another challenge for us and another game which we have to embrace.”
