Pontypridd Town set to play first home game at new home Leckwith Stadium

Pontypridd Town will play their first home game of the season, four months into the Welsh Football League season.

They will host fellow Welsh League side Goytre at Leckwith Stadium this weekend, with a 14:00 kick-off scheduled.

Cardiff City House of Sport & Cardiff International released a statement that the stadium is now open for use.

“Cardiff City House of Sport & Cardiff International Sports Campus can confirm track & field facilities will re-open within next few days.

“We’re happy to announce the re-opening of the track and field facilities at Cardiff International Sports Campus following £1m investment.”

The first game played on the newly relaid pitch was Cardiff City U18’s 17-0 victory over Tiger Bay Juniors in the FAW Youth Cup.

The Dragons have been forced to play all their games away from home and last week saw their game against Llantwit Major postponed last week.

Pontypridd are currently under interim management, following the departure of manager Damien Broad. Gavin Beddard is the player-manager, whilst Chris Simms is assisting him in his temporary role. Beddard was formerly manager of South Wales Alliance League side Cogan Coronation.

The Dragons drew 3-3 with fellow new boys Ammanford at the Recreational Ground on Saturday. Luke Gullick scored twice.

They will then play Ton Pentre in their first league game at Leckwith Stadium next week, following their move from the USW Sport Park.

Pontypridd are currently bottom of Division One.
