An eventful end to the clash at Cyncoed Campus saw Aberystwyth Town come from two goals behind to secure victory over Cardiff Metropolitan.

Goals from Will Evans and Sam Snaith put Met in control at the interval, before the visitors fought back with a spirited second-half performance.

But what did we learn from the encounter?

Aberystwyth leave it late

The Archers had been comfortable for large parts of the encounter with goalkeeper Alex Lang being kept fairly quiet.

Joe Phillips went close to drawing Aberystwyth level which proved to be his side’s best chance of the first half.

He found space inside Met’s area but was unable to guide his effort on target.

When Walker eventually halved the deficit inside the 66th minute, the visitors grew in confidence and began to show a more attacking threat.

The goal set up a grandstand finish as Ryan Wollacott drew the visitors level with four minutes remaining.

And when Met substitute Rhys Thomas was shown a second yellow card following a rash challenge, the tide began to swing in favour of the Seasiders.

They pressed for the winning goal in the dying minutes and made the extra man count as Ashley Ruane fired home to earn the visitors all three points.

Visitors receive a good backing

The Aberystwyth faithful turned out in their numbers after making the long journey down to the Welsh capital.

Despite going two goals behind, they supported the team throughout the 90 minutes and were eventually rewarded for their vocal efforts.

They joined in the celebrations with the players following the full-time whistle after a dramatic encounter.

Ruane to the rescue

After being sent on at half-time by manager Seamus Heath, Ashley Ruane snatched the three points for the visitors in stoppage time.

He proved to be a threat to the Met defence following his introduction and set up the first goal for the visitors with a cross into the area.

And could have grabbed another goal before netting the winner.

He found space on the edge of the area with less than 10 minutes remaining and tested Met ‘keeper Lang, who was equalled to the effort.

After Wollacott brought the visitors level late on, the game looked to be heading for a draw before Ruane stole the headlines as he fired in from close range to round off an eventful afternoon.
