Llangefni Town manager Chris Roberts says he’s looking forward to testing his wits against Premier League opposition this Saturday.
The Anglesey based side welcome Llanelli Town to Talwrn Road this Saturday, as the Reds make 151-mile trip up north in Round Three of the JD Welsh Cup.
Cefni reached the Quarter-Finals of the Welsh Cup in 2005/2006 and will be hopeful of reaching Round Four, despite playing higher league opposition.
Roberts said: “This is a game we have been looking forward to since the draw was made.
“To draw a Welsh Premier side like Llanelli is fantastic and it gives us a chance to really test ourselves against a team from the top flight which we are looking forward to.
“These sort of games are the ones you always want to be involved in and its why clubs like us enter the Welsh Cup.”
Llanelli Town are currently second from bottom, having found life in the Welsh Premier League difficult, following their promotion from last season.
The Reds have had a number of red cards this season, making it hard for Andy Hill to name a full strength side. They also had just one substitute against Connah’s Quay.
In their latest fixture, they drew 2-2 at Steboneath Park against fellow new boys Caernarfon Town.
“I don’t think Llanelli will be lacking in confidence having beaten Cefn Druids and drawn with Caernarfon in their last two games.
“I feel Llanelli are a good side and that their position in the league is potentially a false representation of where they could be in if they would have been able to field a full strength side in a lot of their games this season which they haven’t been able to do so due to suspensions.
“We know they will be a tough opposition and that we will need to be at our best if we are to get anything out of the game.
“I have been studying Llanelli a lot since the draw took place and even had someone from the club go watch them. Andy has them playing some great football and with players like James Loveridge and Follows we will need to stay focused.”
As they welcome the Welsh Premier League outfit to North Wales, Llangefni will be hopeful of bringing top-flight football back to Anglesey.
They had just one season in the Welsh Premier League, finishing 18th out of 18th in the 2007/2008 season.
But as they currently top the Welsh Alliance League, the good times could return for Cefni.
“These are the kind of fixtures we all aim to be playing in week in week out and there is no reason that a club like Llangefni cant get back there.
“With all the hard work the committee and club members are putting in it would be what they deserve.
“Over the past few years, I have seen how much this club means to the town, having the supporters coming in numbers through the gates on a Saturday really gives us a lift and I know come Saturday they won’t let us down and will be there once more.”
