Liam Cullen nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Year

Swansea City ‘s Liam Cullen has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award. 

It caps a surreal twenty four hours for the Pembrokeshire born striker, who on Wednesday scored his first senior goal for Swansea City in their 4-1 victory at Reading which secured a promotion play-off place.

Cullen, 21, has scored 17 goals for the Swans Under 23 side from 21 appearances, having first joined the Club as an eight-year-old and scored ten goals in last seasons campaign after making his first-team debut as a teenager in August 2018 against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. 

He was awarded the PL2 player of the month for January after netting 10 goals in four appearances across three different competitions.

Joining Cullen on the shortlist of nominees selected, by a panel of Premier League representatives after PL2 managers had nominated the best individual performance from each of their opponents over the season are Jamal Hector-Ingram (Derby County), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Rayhaan Tulloch (West Brom) and Nathan Holland (West Ham).

The last Swansea player to win the award was Ollie McBurnie in 2017, the front man leaving last season for current Premier League high fliers Sheffield United.  A Premier League Football Development Panel decides the winner, who will be announced next week and follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Aaron Connolly, of Brighton & Hove Albion.
