Ethan Ampadu set for loan move to Sheffield United – reports

Chelsea and Wales international midfielder Ethan Ampadu looks set to join Sheffield United.

The 19-year-old had an indifferent spell with Champions League semi-finalists RB Leipzig last season but could now be handed an opportunity of regular Premier League football.

According to the Daily Mail, The Blades are interested in taking the Wales international to Bramall Lane.

And a report from Sun journalist Alan Nixon says that Chris Wilder’s side are closing in on securing Ampadu for the upcoming season.

A move to Sheffield, where he could gain vital first-team minutes could aid his development.

Ampadu’s international manager Ryan Giggs spoke of his desire to see the Exeter City academy product playing regular football.

‘It’s that balance over whether they’re at a top club and surrounded by top players and improving every day, but ultimately you need minutes on the pitch,” said Giggs.

“That’s a decision for Ethan. I’ve talked to him a lot about that.

‘I think last year was maybe a little bit different as he had injuries. You could see from the game he played against Tottenham in the Champions League he was outstanding.

‘Nothing fazes him, he’s a quality player, and he just needs to keep fit now.’
