Former Haverfordwest County loanee Matthew Turner has joined Cardiff City from Leeds United.
The 19 year old goalkeeper spent last season on loan at Cymru Premier side Haverfordwest County. Turner has put pen to paper on a two year contract which will see him join the under 23’s set up at the Bluebirds initially until 2023.
“It’s a great feeling to get it over the line, having trialled over the last few weeks. It’s a proud moment not only for me but for my family as well.” said Matthew in a quote released on Cardiff City’s website.
He continued with “The coaches have a massive amount of experience throughout the Club, and it’ll be really good to learn as much as possible from them. I’m looking forward to the opportunities that will arise from me joining Cardiff City, beginning with looking to play for the U23 side.”
Matthew made nine appearances in the Cymru Premier last season keeping three clean sheets.
Cardiff City U23’s lead coach Steve Morison spoke about the addition of Matthew in the club’s statement, he said: “We needed another goalkeeper – Matthew impressed beforehand whilst on loan at Haverfordwest County last season.”
“As I’ve mentioned before, we look for players that won’t block any existing pathways for development, and that’s exactly what we’ve done here. We want our U23 players to have that clear pathway so that they can develop well into senior professionals.”
Matthew Turner will be alongside Wales U21’s international George Ratcliffe in the goalkeeping ranks at the Championship side.
