Cambrian & Clydach Vale continued their unbeaten start in the Cymru South as they defeated bottom side Llantwit Major 2-1.
Ryan Prosser’s penalty in the ninth minute and a stoppage-time goal from Josh Bull gave them their fourth win in six games. Major captain Ioan Emanuel netted a 93rd minute penalty but it proved too late for a come back.
The Sky Blues move up a place to third after Briton Ferry Llansawel and Taffs Well drew with Afan Lido and Swansea University respectively.
Entering the match as the bottom-ranked team, Llantwit started positively and controlled possession for the opening few minutes.
All their early pressure was undone however as Bull was bundled over in the box for a penalty. Prosser stepped up and cooly dispatched the spot-kick for the fourth time in five matches.
Prosser’s opener gave Cambrian a slight jagger about them but Llantwit remained the side that had the ball, though it took them time to turn their possession into chances.
On the edge of the box, Josh Morgan let fly with a shot that beat the goalkeeper but cannoned back off the post.
Using the flanks to cause the visitors issues, a few crosses were floated in but Sean Williams on numerous occasions had beaten Prosser for aerial duels.
Prosser did tee up Liam Reed to shoot however but Cambrian put bodies in the way to close down a clear-routed shot.
After evading the sliding tackle of Connor Young, Harri Edwards skipped into the box but Harry Johnson blocked Edwards’ tight-angled shot with his legs.
In a cruel similar fate to the first goal, Llantwit fell further behind, against the run-of-play once more. Liam Eason pulled the ball back to Bull to slide a shot home from six-yards before the half-time whistle sounded.
Major started as they did in the first half and caused more problems as Josh Morgan neatly dribbled past the defence before lifting his shot onto the crossbar – a sign of things to come.
From the corner-kick, Thomas Walbeoff hooked a shot onto the crossbar in a congested penalty box with Cambrian able to clear.
In a bid to thwart the Major pressure, Scott Young brought on three new players to freshen their attack up.
Sean Williams though swung a shot just past the post in another missed opportunity for Stevie McCarthy-Campbell’s side.
After many near opportunities, Major lost their edge and the match turned into a scrappy affair with Cambrian enjoying their longest spell in possession.
For all their attacking endeavour, Llantwit were gifted a penalty after David Thomas conceded a foul in the box. Their captain Emmanuel stepped forward and sent Johnson the long way but it was a case of too little too late.
