All change at Penrhyncoch as management staff stand down and stalwart retires
Aneurin Thomas has stood down from his post as first-team manager of Penrhyncoch following the completion of the 2021/22 season.
Thoma succeeded Gari Lewis in May 2020 and led the Roosters to a ninth-place finish in this season’s Cymru North.
They also defeated Llanrhaeadr and The New Saints to reach Round Three of the Nathaniel MG Cup.
They did though suffer defeat to Ardal Leagues outfit Saltney Town on penalties, going out in the fourth round.
Thomas is not the only member of the management staff to leave, as his assistant manager Sion James has also decided to follow him out of the club.
“It’s been an honour, not been an easy decision,” said James in a post on a social media post after his exit from Cae Baker was announced.
“I can’t thank the club and players enough and especially Freddie Thomas for giving me the chance, we did ok big man.”
The pair follow first-team defender Jonathan Foligno out of the club after he hung up his boots following a lengthy playing career.
The 40-year-old scored on his last appearance in Penrhyncoch’s final game of the campaign, a 3-1 defeat to Holywell Town.
Foligno had three spells at Penrhyncoch, spanning 17 seasons, and played over 700 games.
The centre-back first joined the club back in 2000 from Llanrhystud but had a spell with Aberystwyth Town, Caernarfon Town, and Penparcau.
He had a six-month spell in the 2020/21 season at Aberystwyth and scored his first top-flight goal in a 2-2 draw with The New Saints.
In the past season, he made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Ceredigion-based side.
