Mark Aizlewood has taken charge of Carmarthen Town for a second time as he succeeds Sean Cresser, following a decision by the club.

Aizlewood rejoined the coaching staff back last summer and had been assisting Cresser, along with Chris O’Sullivan as coach and Stuart Lloyd as goalkeeping coach.

But after Carmarthen suggested a change to the management structure in which Cresser’s role would change, he has opted to leave and will be replaced by Aizlewood.

Cresser had been in at Richmond Park for the past three years and held the role of academy director before being appointed manager following the departure of Kris O’Leary.

At the point of his departure, he had Carmarthen placed in fourth in their first full season since their relegation from the Cymru Premier back in 2020.

Having stood down with immediate effect, he will not be in the dugout for their final fixture of the Cymru South season, against second-placed Pontypridd Town on April 30.

In a statement released by the club on Sunday, it read: “Mark Aizlewood will lead Carmarthen Town AFC’s efforts to return to the Cymru Premier next season, having been appointed as Manager instead of Sean Cresser.

“The club is extremely disappointed that Sean will not form part of the team management group going forward. We thank Sean for his untiring efforts throughout the season.

“Mark Aizlewood has been asked to appoint his coaching team.”

The 62-year-old had a successful six-year spell at Carmarthen, leading them to two Welsh League Cups, whilst also preserving their status in the Welsh top flight for a number of seasons.

Aizlewood had a lengthy playing career, playing for the likes of Charlton Athletic and Bristol City manly, as well as spells at Cardiff City and Leeds United.

He also made 39 appearances for Wales in an eight-year period, starting with his first cap in 1986 against Saudi Arabia and ending in 1994 against Bulgaria.
