Match Preview: Treharris Athletic Western v Penrhiwceiber Rangers FC

Treharris Athletic Western FC entertain the visitors Penrhiwceiber Rangers FC in a Welsh League Division Three clash this weekend, and it is sure to be an exciting game.

Treharris are the oldest registered football club in South Wales and play their home matches at the iconic Athletic Ground. On a trip to the Netherlands to see Willem II play Ajax last season, some fans mentioned how Treharris was on their bucket list to visit. This is the esteem that fans who love the beautiful game hold for this ground and always ensures that groundhoppers can be spotted at home games.

Not quite as far for me to visit rather than coming from Holland, or indeed for the visiting supporters, who will be making the short journey by car, but it should be a good clash with both teams looking, of course, for the three points. The Lillywhites of Treharris, as they’re known, are currently placed fourth in the league, but only due to goal difference with the top four teams all on six points. Penrhiwceiber in comparison have chalked up just the one win this season and are 14th in the league table. Rangers will be looking to bounce back after going down to a heavy 6-2 defeat away at Panteg recently. Their only win and points of the season came back in August as they beat Treowen Stars 1-0 at home.

The home team meanwhile have had a decent start to the campaign beating Treowen Stars at home 3-2 back in August, and they also enjoyed a win over STM sports 2-1 on the opening day of the season. Last weekend also saw Treharris chalk up a good home win, 4-2 over the visitors Treforest FC in the FAW trophy. Treharris went down 1-4 to Penrhiwceiber in the Nathaniel Cup and will be looking to make amends this weekend in the league clash.

The camera will be rolling and a match report to follow this weekend, in what is sure to be an exciting game.
