Glantraeth promote from within as playing duo take managerial reigns

Experienced duo Mike Lundstram and Joe Morgan have been appointed as joint-managers of Glantraeth following the departure of Warren Gibbs.

The double winners who claimed the league title last year as well as the Cookson Cup were on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Gibbs.

The club have found their successors though and they come in the form of two players already at the club, in Mike Lundstram and Joe Morgan.

Gibbs who stood down towards the end of last month has given his backing to the the two and has predicted that they will continue the success at Trefdraeth.

“All the best to Mike Lundstram and Joe Morgan, both winners at a great club. I’m sure you’ll be very successful lads.”

Lundstram himself said he is looking forward to the opportunity of working alongside Joe Morgan over the course of the 2017/2018 season.

Lundstram has played for a number of clubs in North Wales, with the most notable being Premier League side Llandudno, where he spent 9 years at the club.

As a player, he has won the Welsh Alliance League top goal scorer, scoring 39 goals in a season for Llandudno Junction.

One part of the management team, Joe Morgan has already managed before, during a managerial spell with Llandudno Junction, who were promoted to the Cymru Alliance in the place of Glantraeth.

Glantraeth have lost a number of players since the end of the season with top goal scorer Corrig McGonigle moving to league rivals Conwy Borough and Cymru Alliance side Rhyl signing Gerwyn Jones.

Joining the duo at Glantraeth though will be Llanrug United shot-stopper Dylan Roberts who revealed on social media yesterday he would be joining the club.
