Pontypridd Town sign experienced duo Beddard and Burnett

Pontypridd Town have added to their ranks with the signing of experienced duo of David Burnett and Gavin Beddard.

The Dragons who narrowly missed out on promotion last season have moved in the pre-season to adding experience to their squad.

With the club bringing in David Burnett, they bring in a player who has had experience in the Welsh Premier League, having played for Port Talbot Town.

The 27 year-old last played for Ponty’s Rhondda rivals AFC Porth, who were also chasing promotion last season.

The former AFC Porth shot-stopper spoke on his decision to join the club and he was impressed with how the club are run.

“I was disappointed when finishing with AFC Porth as I felt as a squad we massively underachieved. With the start we had and the talent in the group, promotion should of been of the cards but it was not to be.

One of the first clubs I thought about joining (if offered the chance) after leaving Porth was Ponty. They had a great group of players last year and I knew that if they all stayed together and made a few additions, they would have a real chance at promotion this season.

The club is run very professionally and it was an easy decision when I had a phone call from Dom.”

Beddard joins the Dragons after playing for another Rhondda rival of Ponty in Dinas Powys, where he will add experience to the front-line at Ynysngharad Park.

The former Cogan Coronation top scorer won Player of the Year at Dinas Powys for last season after his stand-out performances for the Vale of Glamorgan side.

For two seasons in a row, Beddard had bagged over 30 goals for Cogan Coronation, as well as managing the side, showing that he has an eye for goal and will be a valuable addition to the Broads side.

Beddard like Burnett has featured in the top flight of Welsh football which will help the younger players going forward, as well as playing alongside some other house-hold names in Welsh League football.

As well as arrivals coming to Ynysyngharad Park, the club have also secured the services of a number of players from last season.

Callum Meyer, Bo Cordle, Matthew Hibbs, Gareth Hole, Adam Johns, Zac Iheanacho, Bobby Briers and Scott Hillman have all re-signed with the club.
