Conwy Borough secure young Caernarfon Town duo Roberts and Williams on-loan

Welsh Alliance League side Conwy Borough have completed the loan signings of Caernarfon Town pair Nathan Williams and Jamie Roberts.

The two arrive from The Oval on a season-long loan deal as Gareth Thomas looks to put together a side capable of challenging for promotion, following their good start in Division One of the Welsh Alliance League.

It is the second and third signings in the space of the week after Conwy signed youngster Tom Walsh, following his release from English giants Liverpool, in which he played for the England U16s and U17S squads.

The club announced the moves on their official website on Monday evening, with the current Conwy side looking very different to what it was last season, after their relegation.

Williams operates as an utility man in defence and joined Caernarfon from Llanberis last season. He can play at both full-back and centre-back.

The young Caernarfon-born defender was club captain at Llanberis during his time there and won many individual awards to merit his move to the Oval.

As well as Williams joining Conwy, young midfielder Jamie Roberts has also joined him for the season.

Roberts featured for Glantraeth last season, as well as playing for Holyhead and being part of the academy at the Connah’s Quay Nomads.

He’s been described as a creative midfielder who can unlock teams with defence-splitting passes upon his arrival at Caernarfon Town last November.

Speaking to ConwyBorough.co.uk, manager Gareth Thomas was thankful to Iwan Williams for loaning him the pair and described the decision to sign them as ‘easy’ as the two signed on at Y Morfa.

“When I spoke to Iwan and was offered the chance to sign the pair. It was an easy decision, both are very good young players and were happy to come to the club.

Alun has worked with both and they will add quality to the squad. We now feel we have enough strength in depth in the squad. I would like to thank both Iwan and Caernarfon Town for their assistance in making the deals happen and look forward to working with the pair”.

The pair could make their debut on Wednesday evening as Conwy host Greenfield at Y Morfa in their second game of the league season.
