Welsh National League gears up for vital weekend

It’s been a frustrating month for the teams of the Welsh National League, with many matches postponed due to the weather.

Alike the Welsh Alliance, there is a mixture of league and cup action this weekend.

Starting in the Premier Division, Lex Glyndwr welcome Chirk AAA to Stansty Park with both teams sitting steady in mid table either side of each and only goal difference by one-point separating the two and Lex above their opponents. Not one for the accumulator, this one could go either way.

Rhostyllen welcome near neighbours Penycae to the village and the home side will look to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at the hands of Mold last week.

Penycae are struggling and find themselves rooted into a fight for survival with seven points separating themselves from third from bottom, Hawarden Rangers. Penycae will be desperate to salvage their season as soon as possible.

Llanuwchllyn make the long trip north to Saltney. The last time these two met was back in December when Saltney ran out convincing 4-1 winners.

The Gwynedd side will be looking to make amends for that miserable defeat. A win for the visitors could see them move within a point of the league leaders, while Saltney could move up into third place if they were to take all three points.

Meanwhile in Divison 1, league leaders, Brymbo entertain New Brighton Villa, Castell AC welcome Overton and the game of the day see’s second place Rhos Aelwyd travel to Llangollen, a win for Rhos could see them go top if Brymbo fail to win and Llangollen could possibly finish the day in second place with a high scoring win.

Rhydymwyn see Wrexham side, Maesgwyn make the short journey. Rhydymwyn have been in miserable form lately and the home side will look to change things around, so they can kick start their season into gear.

The weekend also brings some cup games, the Premier Division League Cup see’s, Cefn Albion take on Mold Alex, Corwen entertain league leaders Brickfield, FC Nomads welcome Hawarden Rangers and Llay Welfare have the task of defeating unbeaten Buckley Town.

Division One’s League Cup solitary game has, Mynydd Isa Spartans taking on Cefn Mawr Rangers.
