Eardley delighted after handing Owen Caernarfon debut

Caernarfon Town manager Sean Eardley has expressed his delight at having given youngster Dion Owen his first team debut, as his side advanced to the next round of the JD Welsh Cup.

Eardley brought Owen on for his debut in the 3-0 win over Prestatyn Town with ten minutes remaining in the tie at Bastion Gardens.

Thanks to an early goal from Noah Edwards against his former club, and a brace from Cai Jones, the Cofis advanced past the 3rd Round of the JD Welsh Cup.

Eardley was delighted with the win but was just as happy to have been able to hand Owen his debut for the club in the tie, and has expressed how comfortable the youngster looked in the fixture.

“Dion doesn’t look out of place. He’s always learning. I was made up to give him his debut, probably the right time, 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining.

He’s got a sweet left foot and he’s got a big career ahead of him, he just needs to continue to learn in the Under-19’s and with us,” said Eardley, who did not rule out another appearance for the youngster before the end of the season. “Hopefully, he’ll got more game time before the end of the season.”

However, Eardley made sure to single out experienced forward Jamie Breese for praise after the match, after the striker was made to miss out in the tie as a result of Eardley wanting to hand Owen his first appearance for the club.

But, Breese was happy to help the team and the manager has lavished the praise on the striker for his selflessness.

“The application of Jamie Breese is absolutely first class. I pulled him last night and told him he was starting on the bench and he was absolutely fine, he put the team first and just wanted the team to progress. Even tonight, with the last substitution that I had, I pulled him and I wanted to give Dion Owen his debut, and he was fine.”

The manager was not the only person delighted with Owen’s debut, with the Cofis manager expressing how elated Owen’s father was at his son making his first team debut for the club.

“I’m made up, I got the biggest hug off his dad at the end.”
