Excitement is surging ahead of JD Welsh Cup Round Four after a dramatic night that saw both Connah’s Quay Nomads and reigning champions The New Saints crash out of the competition.
For the past two seasons, TNS and the Nomads had dominated the tournament, meeting in back-to-back finals at Newport County’s Rodney Parade. But on Friday night, the script was ripped up.
At Cyncoed Campus, TNS looked to be in control until a late turnaround from Cardiff Met. Jasper Payne and Matt Chubb struck in quick succession, sealing a stunning victory and sending the Archers’ supporters into raptures.
Meanwhile, 2024 champions Connah’s Quay were undone by a fearless Llandudno side. Early goals from Ben Maher and Ross Weaver put the Seasiders firmly in command, completing another upset in a night of shocks.
Saturday delivered more JD Welsh Cup drama as Bangor City 1876 shocked JD Cymru North promotion contenders Holywell Town, pulling off one of the standout results of the round. Meanwhile, Blaenavon Blues pushed Newport City all the way, forcing a tense penalty shootout after a spirited performance.
Trearddur Bay, sitting seventh in the Ardal North West, now stand as the lowest-ranked side left in the competition. Their cup run continued with a memorable win over fifth-tier Glynneath Town, who drew a bumper crowd on Saturday and battled valiantly before ultimately falling to a 5–2 defeat.
The remaining tie of the round is the all-JD Cymru South affair between Cardiff Draconians and Trefelin BGC. Dracs will host Trefelin at the Orange Llama Stadium on Saturday, November 28, at 14:30.
From potential upsets to surprise runs by lower-ranked sides, the next stage promises excitement and here’s everything you need to know to follow the action.
