WELSH ALLIANCE DIVISION ONE

GAME OF THE WEEK: Bodedern Athletic 3 – 2 Nantlle Vale

Bodedern Athletic, sitting third in the League standings, took on the only team that were still unbeaten this season, with Nantlle Vale hoping to continue that run in order to ascend the League table.

However, in a very entertaining match, it was the in-form Bodedern who came out on top, leapfrogging Llangefni Town and Llanrug United into top place in the League, ending Nantlle Vale’s unbeaten start to the season in the process.

The visitors got off to a good start, when Aaron Griffiths opened the scoring after only 12 minutes. However, Bodedern equalised just nine minutes later, when Luke Challinor scored, before Steven Whittaker scored four minutes before half time to make it 2-1 at the interval. After the break, it was more even between the two teams, but that was to change in the 60th minute, when Nantlle Vale were reduced to 10men and conceded a penalty that was duly dispatched by Casey Boylan to make it 3-1 to the hosts. As time began to slip away from the visitors, Gerwyn Williams managed to score with 13 minutes remaining to make it an interesting finish to the match, but the hosts held on and celebrated a big three points at the full time whistle.

ROUND-UP: Elsewhere in the Welsh Alliance Division One …

Llandudno Junction picked up just their seond win of the season.
The club struggling at the bottom of the league beat fellow strugglers Llandyrnog United 1-0, with a 77th minute strike from Jack Nettleton the difference. The result means Llandudno Junction are now only five points behind Barmouth Dyffryn, Llandyrnog United and St Asaph City, who are all level on 12 points, and occupy places 14, 13 and 12 in the table respectively.

Elsewhere, Greenfield and Llanrug United played out an exciting 4-4 draw. The hosts were hoping to move to the top of the table, with Llangefni Town not in League action this weekend, and they were in complete control for 90 minutes in this match, only for the visitors to hit three injury time goals to earn a point in this match.

In an epic second half, where there was eight goals, Jonathan Sadler got the opener in the 48th minute, before a quickfire double with goals from Dylan Owen and Aaron Hughes made it 3-0 in the 55th minute.

It remained that way until the 87th minute, when Joe Pennington’s strike made it 3-1, before a Shaun Beck goal in the 91st minute brought the scoreline to 3-2. Jonathan Sadler got his second of the match to make it 4-2 to Llanrug United straight from kick-off, in what looked like a killer blow to Greenfield. However, the visitors weren’t done, and in the 93rd minute Aidan Roxburgh made it 4-3 with a 20 yard finish, before substitute Dan Sim completed the epic comeback with a 95th minute equaliser to make it 4-4

Whilst there were wins elsewhere for Penrhyndeudraeth and Prestatyn Sports, whilst Llanberis and Llandudno Albion played out a 2-2 draw.
