Bridgend Street 1-2 Caldicot Town: Shelley snatches it for Caldicot against Street

Harri Shelley’s injury-time strike gave Caldicot Town a winning end to the year at Bridgend Street.

The youngster scored his second goal of the game against the run of play to secure Tony Wallis’ side the victory in what was a gutsy performance from the Monmouthshire side.

Bridgend Street had initially taken the lead through Paul Fowler, but Harri Shelley scored two second-half goal to change the complexion of the game.

Caldicot Town goalkeeper Gareth Wesson produced an inspired display, saving a number of chances from the Street forwards.

The visitors move up a place and overtake their opponents Bridgend Street who dropped two places to 8th.

Giancarlo Gabbiadini fired into the side netting as Caldicot fired an early warning. Ben Smith almost opened the scoring but Damien Lack blocked Smith’s direct shot well with his body.

Street took the lead on the half-hour mark against the run of play. Nathan Gulley’s low cross wasn’t dealt with and there was Paul Fowler to hit a deflected strike past Wesson for the opening goal.

Fowler nearly doubled his tally after his brother Robert found him with a smart corner, but captain Paul agonisingly missed the target with a free-header.

In the last act of the half, Owen Bancroft went on an unopposed run and fired just wide of the target.

Caldicot came out in the second half on the front foot and showed their intentions early on.

However, Owen Bancroft’s header from Richard Noyes’ cross was narrowly wide, going the other side of the post.

Caldicot drew level as Ben Smith forced Lack to come out of his goal, allowing Shelley to roll he ball into an empty net with a composed finish.

Having drawn level, Caldicot’s James Gidney almost fired into his own net as he attempted to clear a Street cross.

Street then had a chance through Robert Fowler, but Wesson made a superb save to deny them the lead. Mike Murphy also had an opportunity after picking up a loose ball, but Wesson made a superb one-handed save.

As the game approached stoppage time, the Caldicot goalkeeper continued his heroics. Michael Nessbert headed at goal, forcing Wesson to dive to make the save before Swann blocked Mike Murphy from making a shot on the rebound.

In the killer act of the game. Nessbert was caught in possession on half-way and Caldicot made the most of it Swann played it to Shelley who slid it past the outcoming Lack to spark jubilant scenes.
