Risca United complete signing of Trethomas Bluebirds forward Neville

Division Two side Risca United have added Trethomas Bluebirds forward Thomas Neville.

Neville left Trethomas Bluebirds last week and has moved up a division to play for Simon Berry’s Risca United in the Welsh Football League Division Two.

The 21-year-old forward will have familiar surroundings, as Risca United also play at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence.

The Bluebirds top goalscorer scored eight goals, leaves Division Three as the fifth top goal scorer. Only Matthew Prosser on six goals comes close to Neville.

He had been nursing an injury which saw him miss two months of the season, but since returned to the Bluebirds starting eleven.

Neville links up with close friend Leon Thomas who is already at Risca United, having made a breakthrough into the first team.

Upon signing for Risca, Neville said: “I had a little taste of Division 2 with Aberdare but I was only 19 at the time and felt as if a season and half at Trethomas has done me a world of good for my confidence and changed me completely as a player.

“I’ve watched Risca play a few times this season and they play some really good football but from what I’ve been told they lack goals, so hopefully I can pay them back with a few this season!

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge starting with Abergavenny at home on Friday night.”

Neville said his goodbyes to Trethomas last week, tweeting: “I would like to wish @TreBluebirdsFC all the best for the future and their promotion push.

“Made some great memories at the club but due to some circumstances it’s time for myself to move on.”

During his time at Trethomas Bluebirds, he finished top scorer in his first season with the club. In doing so, he won the Bluebirds Player of the Year.

His only other experience of football in the Welsh League other than Trethomas Bluebirds was with Aberdare Town, where he had limited opportunities.

Risca are currently 12th in Division Two, winning four, drawing four and losing ten with more than half the season gone. They’re ranked 8th in regards to goals scored, scoring 28 in 18 matches. The Cuckoos do have the fifth-worst defence in the league, conceding 43 goals.

Neville could make his debut this coming Friday when Risca United host league leaders Abergavenny Town.
