Ynysygerwn 1-1 Penybont: Ynysygerwn reach final after unlikely victory

Taffs Well v Penybont in Welsh Football League Division One at the Rhiw'r Ddar Stadium.

Live updates from Rhiw’r Ddar as Taffs Well hosts its second Welsh Football League Cup semi-final.

Penydarren were the first side to progress to the final and will be joined by either Ynysygerwn or Penybont. Ynysygerwn have never been in the final, whilst the last time Penybont were there was in the guise of Bryntirion Athletic in 2013.

Division Three Ynysygerwn take on Penybont who were recently crowned Champions of Division One on Saturday. Ynysygerwn beat Penybont’s promotion rivals Haverfordwest in the previous round.

Ynysygerwn have beaten higher opposition in each round of the competition this season, with Croesyceiliog, Caerau Ely and Haverfordwest County all victims of a Cup shock at the hands of Nicholas Maggs’ side.

Penybont received a bye in Round One but beat Albion Rovers, Cwmamman United and Port Talbot Town to get here.
