1876 Bangor appoint Mel Jones as manager

Clwb Pêl-Droed Bangor 1876 have appointed Mel Jones as their first ever manager.

This week, the club were told that they would begin life in the Gwynedd League for their maiden season.

Jones, who hails from Bangor is an A-Licence coach, who has previously worked as a Head of Academy and a grassroots coach.

A club statement said: “Well-known in local footballing circles, Mel has been appointed, not only due to his coaching capabilities and know-how but also for his reputation for developing young talent.”

He will be assisted by Dylan Williams, who takes the role of assistant-manager.

Williams was previously part of Llandudno FC’s Academy.

Les Davies and Michael Johnston are Mel Jones’ first signings.

Davies was announced as a signing by Aberystwyth Town earlier this summer but has instead joined 1876 Bangor.

He helped Bangor to WPL title glory in 2011, as well as winning three Welsh Cups. Last season, he finished the season at Llandudno.

Davies said: “I’m really excited and looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I’m committed to giving the fans a football club that they can be proud, and one that they and the community can support.”

Johnston joins having played for Bangor, Llandudno and Caernarfon Town.

The pair will work closely with the coaching team.

1876 Bangor have also revealed that Teejac Sports, a Bangor based company have manufactured their kit deals.

Bangor’s home kit is predominantly blue, whilst their away strip is red.
