Wales midfielders Angharad James and Georgia Evans are on the move this summer.
Evans signs for Charlton Athletic from Yeovil Town, who were recently relegated from the WSL. Angharad James parted ways with Everton after her contract in Merseyside expired.
Georgia was an unused substitute against New Zealand in Wales’ last international match with New Zealand, whilst Angharad James missed out completely.
James tweeted of her departure from Everton: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Everton. I have enjoyed my two years at the club and settling into life up North,”
“I feel like it’s time for a new challenge and a fresh start and I’m looking forward to the future.”
Evans spent two years with the Somerset-based club. Prior to joining Yeovil, the 23-year-old spent six years with Bristol City. During her time with the Vixens, she represented Wales at under-16, 17 and 19 levels aswell as getting her first call up to play for the first team.
Speaking to Charlton Athletic, Evans is keen to get the season started in south-east London.
“As soon as I came to the club and saw the facilities, I made the decision and can’t wait to get started.
“It’s exciting to join the club. I came down last week and I’ve been training with the girls so I’m really excited for the season,” Evans said.
Charlton Athletic manager Riteesh Mishra has expressed his delight in having a player of Evans’ calibre on board.
“I think it’s a big message for someone like us as a club to be getting a player of Georgia’s calibre. It should give us confidence as a club that someone like her has decided to join us.”
Evans has been joined at Charlton by former Wales youth international Ellie Leek.
Leek had been playing in France with French Championship Division Two side Le Havre AC, playing 21 times and scoring five goals. Leek will come up against former Le Havre teammate Rhian Cleverly, who plays for Lewes Women.
The former Bristol City academy product spent four-years with US University side Auburn Tigers, featuring 80 times.
After signing for the Addicks, Leek said: “I’m really excited to be here. The coaches promote a really good environment to be in, it’s very competitive and the coaches recruit on personality” said Leek
“The environment when I came to visit was something I wanted to be part of. The levels during training are high, as is the intensity so it’s something I’ve been looking forward to being a part of.”
