They may have conceded more than ten goals, but for CPD Bangor 1876 just having this fixture was huge.
Despite being 7-0 down at half time to FC United of Manchester, all 803 supporters were full of support and roared on the Welsh side throughout the match.
With the game coming to a close and the Manchester side 12-0 up, Benn Lundstrum grabbed one back for the visitors with the first goal ever scored for the newly formed club with supporter Alun Griffiths, who has supported Bangor City for over 50 years, said before the game how much this match meant to him.
“I think it’s exciting,” he added. It’s an exciting time, a moment of history seeing the club play.”
“I’ve been a supporter of Bangor since the mid-sixties and it’s just sad to see the way the things have gone, it’s onwards and upwards.”
“I think the futures good the squad they are building and the backroom and everything, It’s a solid start.”
“Now it’s getting the foundations and building a club.”
Alun’s son Aaron, who lives in Manchester, says it’s a good time to be a fan.
“It’s good for the whole community that there is a new club and everything is going good, looking forward.”
Supporter Paul Owen, says he hopes the city will come together and support the newly formed team.
“It’s great, (a) new beginning for Bangor 1876.
“We have to start again, this is start and thank goodness FC United have put up all the stops today and we appreciate that.”
“We just got to look to the future, this is the club of Bangor now and we have to make it work, I think the people of Bangor will make it work and we put our money in and do our bit.
“We are in the fifth tier (Gwynedd League) hopefully we will go from strength to strength.”
Mike Randall Owen’s view on the future and says he hopes Bangor 1876 reach the top once again.
“It’s a massive day and one of new beginnings, I’m so proud.”
“We’ve got the history of the football club and we carrying it through.”
“Its engraved in the people of Bangor the success and the future it’s everything.”
“All these people of Bangor know what it feels like and clubs like FC United of Manchester have gone through this themselves and we’ve had great support from other clubs as well there’s always hope, we are going to drive this forward and it’s all good.”
“More than anything it’s to carry on the history of football through Bangor, through the people of Bangor and the surrounding area. We got to be positive about it and it’s exciting.
“We are going to move up the leagues and go back to the top of Welsh Football.”
Bangor 1876 are back in action this Thursday when they take on supporter-owned Chester FC at the Swansway Chester Stadium (7pm) before two days later taking on Holywell in their first ever home game at Treborth playing fields (1pm).
