Josh Evans: Aberdare Town appoint new manager

Josh Evans is the new man at the helm at Aberaman Park.

Aberdare Town have named Josh Evans as the successor to Simon Jones as manager.

Evans, 26, becomes one of the youngest managers in the Welsh League.

The newly-appointed Aberdare boss holds previous managerial experience with Merthyr Saints and Pontlottyn in the South Wales Alliance League. Evans had recently been working as an assistant manager to Rhys Llewellyn at the Saints.

He replaces Simon Jones, who mutually agreed to leave Aberaman Park on September 11. Jones has since taken up the role as assistant manager of Gwent side FC Tredegar, working underneath Terry Fitzpatrick.

Aberdare’s club chair Garry Williams said Evans was “the right appointment to turn the clubs fortunes around” due to his “passion, contacts and knowledge of Welsh League football”.

“We were impressed with Josh’s thoughts on the task ahead, added Williams.

“He’s a young manager and full of enthusiasm to take us forward. We look forward to working together.”

His backroom staff is set to be finalised in the coming weeks, as well as new signings.

Evans begins his reign with a home fixture against Alliance League champions Ynyshir Albions tomorrow afternoon (October 11).

Aberdare are without a point in their opening three games, scoring just once and shipping 18 goals.
