Welsh League: Reserves and Youth Leagues to end this weekend

The Welsh Football League has notified clubs that the Reserve and Youth League will end abruptly this weekend.

A committee meeting was held and the decision was made to prematurely end the season.

An email was sent to clubs, notifying them of the decision taken to bring an early end to the leagues.

“Following lengthy discussions at this evenings Welsh League Management Committee, I write to inform you that the 2019/2020 Reserve & Youth League will end this Saturday 14th March.

“League standings, at this date, will determine winners and runners up in squad divisions.

The colossal amount of postponements, due to storm Dennis & Jorge, has pushed the League into unprecedented territory.

“This is not a decision that was taken lightly, as we recognise we have a substantial amount of players, playing at both the Reserve and Youth level.

“The management committee, however, have to ensure that all tier three and four fixtures are completed by seasons end.

“In this scenario, was believed to be the only way that this would be achievable.”

Goytre publicly responded to the statement, by issuing their own on Twitter: “Following last nights announcement by the Welsh League we have contacted them this morning to express our concerns over the decision taken to cancel the Welsh League Reserve and Youth Divisions as of 14/3.

“We urge all other clubs to do the same to hopefully reverse this decision.”

The Welsh League Youth Division holds 12 teams, whilst the Welsh League also has a Reserve East and West Divisions.

In a number of divisions, particular clubs haven’t completed more than ten games yet, including Youth Division leaders Caerau Ely.

The Youth Division’s last fixture listed on the website was scheduled to be played on May 17.

In the Reserve Eastern Division, Chepstow Town v Treowen Stars on May 23 was the last listed fixture.

The Western version had their final fixtures listed on May 9.
