Swansea University react after being denied Tier One licence

It looks like another season in the Cymru South for Swansea University.

Swansea University general manager Nigel Hill has congratulated title rivals Haverfordwest County on a prospective promotion to the Cymru Premier.

The Bluebirds could be promoted to the Welsh top flight at the expense of Swansea who were denied a Tier One licence.

Though that is dependent on whether Haverfordwest secure a top two spot should the Welsh domestic season resume. 

Swansea University were competing in the Cymru South for the first time and had a lead of a point over the West Walian side.

“Haverfordwest deservedly achieved their Tier 1 licence and they have the best wishes of all associated to Univerisity able to claim a place in the Premier League next season,” said Nigel Hill.

“We are disappointed not to have the opportunity ourselves, where our coaches and players have challenged all season for a promotion place and with five games remaining we were also in pole position to lift the Championship trophy.

“We hope to continue our development next season and challenge once again at the top end of the table.”

He further added that the club were waiting on written confirmation of today’s licence meeting and ‘thanked’ those involved in the application process who

Hill concluded the club were awaiting written confirmation on the outcome of today’s FAW licence meeting and wished to put on record ‘the thanks to theirs involved in the application process who had professionally and diligently supported.

Replying to Y Clwb Pêl-Droed’s tweet about the news, defender Daniel Sheehan said: “I’m absolutely gutted to see this! Such a shame with all the effort put in by both players and staff.

“It feels even worse as we currently sit top of the league but regardless I’d like to thank everyone involved with the club for their hard work throughout, you’re a top group of people.”

Another player, Adam Orme said: “I’m gutted about this but what a season it’s been! First-year in the JD Cymru South and currently sitting a point clear.

“Big thanks from me to everyone involved at the club, volunteers, staff & players.”
