Welsh National League: Reserve and Colt division seasons curtailed

The Welsh National League has curtailed its Reserve and Colt League seasons due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The move has been taken to ease any fixture congestion on senior sides should the Welsh domestic season resume.

It follows in the footsteps of the FAW’s Cymru Development leagues in which Barry Town United and Connah’s Quay were crowned Champions following a premature ending.

The Welsh League in South Wales also cancelled their season but that was before the season was halted due to the Coronavirus.

Clubs in Wales are set to meet next week to discuss how the season should conclude.

Commenting on the decision to end the season, league Secretary Steve Harris said: “The Executive Committee having taken into account the FAW Pyramid Restructure affecting Tier Three and Four for season 2020/21, we have reached the decision to curtail Season 2019/20 for the Reserves and Reserves/Colts Divisions together with all WNL Cup Competitions.

“In addition to relieving pressure on fixture scheduling should there be a resumption of domestic football this season it was felt that as the Reserve Divisions will be restructured promotion/relegation was therefore not applicable so curtailment at this stage in the season for both divisions and all cup competitions was the most suitable option to take.”

The FAW supported the decision made by the league and referred it to the National Game Board who approved the choice to end the two Divisions and League Cup competitions.

At the time of cancelling, Mold Alexandra were top of the Reserves and Connah’s Quay were top of the Reserves & Colts.
