Delight for Wales captain Ingle as Chelsea crowned Women’s Super League champions

However, Emma Hayes’ side have been named champions after the clubs decided the final standings on a points-per-game system, with promotion and relegation determined on “sporting merit”.
Chelsea were one point behind leaders Manchester City – who took 40 points from 16 games – when the season was suspended, having played a game less than the Citizens. But both clubs have been confirmed as the English representatives who will compete in the Champions League next season.
It is the second piece of silverware that Ingle has won this season after lifting the League Cup following a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the City Ground in February.
Meanwhile, two-time WSL champions Liverpool – one of Ingle’s former clubs – have been relegated to the Championship after picking up six points from 14 games this term, ensuring her international team-mate Roberts will be playing in the second tier next season.

Aston Villa, who were leading the Championship when the campaign was halted, will replace Liverpool in the WSL next season.
