Met forward Will Evans says an emotional farewell to Archers as he joins Bala

Will Evans has spoken of ‘a tough chat’ with Christian Edwards after departing Cardiff Metropolitan.

Evans, who signed for Bala Town at the end of May, has explained why he ended his long spell at Cardiff Metropolitan, recalling an emotional conversation he shared with manager Christian Edwards.

The forward’s move back home brought to an end a successful five years at Cyncoed Campus, where he played alongside his studies.

In an interview with Cardiff Met TV Sport’s Gethin Stedman, Evans recalled the tough conversation he had with Christian Edwards.

“It was a tough chat.” He stated.

“Christian and I built a really strong bond over the five years I was down there.”

“I wanted it to be a two-minute call and over, but we went through a few memories. He was telling me what I’d done for Cardiff Met and I was just saying how he’d made me grow as a person and a player.

“It sounds like a cliché but I mean it from the bottom of my heart I really mean that.”

Evans reminisced from his time with the Archers and highlights playing in the Europa League as his best moment.

While his time at Cardiff Met FC was very successful, Evans looks back at how his career very nearly didn’t take off.

“When I first came to Uni, I didn’t even know they had a team, a Saturday League team,” Evans confessed.

“I spoke to one of my cousins who came to Cardiff Met, he said they had this BUCS thing on a Wednesday, so I went to the trials.”

“I spoke to my housemate from the first year, £2 the trials were and I didn’t have the money on me so I thought to myself I’m just going to leave it.

“I probably won’t even do it. He lent me the £2 and he keeps reminding me that I owe him this £2 from the first year when we went for the trials. It’s quite a funny moment.”

As Will Evans swaps the Maroon of Met for the white of Bala, the move is something the Mid Walian forward is looking forward to.

He’ll be linking up with some of Welsh football’s biggest names.

Commenting on his move, Evans said: “Bala, they’ve got some great players. With [Chris] Venables, golden boot winner again this year.

The likes of Henry Jones has always got that little bit of magic as well. I’ve played against them and I’m really looking forward to playing with them.”

Looking ahead, he mentioned how physically he feels stronger than ever despite the Covid-19 pandemic cutting the season short.

“To be fair, I’m out and about doing 10-12 hour days on the farm, clocking up the steps and lugging stuff about.

“It’s good but I try and get two or three bits of cardio in, whether it’s a bike ride, whether it’s walking the dog, a run, I try and get something done.

“I’m just trying to squeeze stuff in and around work, but I’d say my fitness has gotten better.”
