James Davies becomes Newtown’s fifth signing of the summer

Newtown have further added to their squad with the addition of Cefn Druids forward James Davies.

The 26 year-old striker scored nine goals in Wales’ top flight last season, averaging a goal every 184 minutes.

Davies becomes Newtown’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrival of striker Jamie Breese from Caernarfon Town, midfielder George Hughes and winger Jordan Evans from Airbus UK Broughton, along with the signing of centre-back James O’Neill.

Formerly of Shrewsbury Town, Carno, Llanfair and Cefn Druids, the striker’s arrival follows a busy day of announcements from the Cymru Premier outfit who finished sixth last season.

Goalkeeping duo Dave Jones and Khamran Steventon have extended their stay, while midfielders Sean McAllister and Ryan Edwards, along with talisman Nick Rushton, have also committed their future.

McAllister, 32, signed for the Robins last summer from Chester and has added invaluable experience to Chris Hughes’ side.

The midfielder made 23 appearances in his debut season at Latham Park, scoring once, as Newtown finished sixth in the Cymru Premier.

Goalkeeper Dave Jones has also put pen-to-paper for a further year with the Robins.

Jones, 30, kept eight clean sheets in 22 games last season, conceding 23 goals, an average of 1.045 goals per game.

The 2020-2021 season will be the fourth consecutive year as a Newtown player for attacker Nick Rushton, 28, who signed for the club in July 2017.

Rushton featured 18 times for the Robins last season, scoring four goals.

Club-captain Craig Williams, vice-captain Kieran Mills-Evans and dependable utility player Neil Mitchell are those who have already put pen-to-paper in preperation for next season.
