Cymru Premier: Team of the Season announced as title-winning Nomads feature heavily

The Cymru Premier ‘Team of the Season’ has been revealed by the Cymru Leagues this evening.

The team includes six Connah’s Quay Nomads players, who all played a key role in helping to end The New Saints’ run of eight consecutive league titles.

The remainder of the side consists of players from the Saints and Bala Town, while Caernarfon Town, Cefn Druids and Barry Town United are represented on the substitutes bench.

Lewis Brass

Connah’s Quay Nomads goalkeeper Lewis Brass is between the sticks, having kept 11 clean sheets last season.

The Nomads conceded just 19 goals on the way to their maiden Cymru Premier title.

Danny Holmes

At right-back is Connah’s Quay Nomads’ Danny Holmes.

The defender was consistent throughout the season, making 22 appearances for the Nomads, scoring once.

George Horan

Experienced centre-back George Horan captained his side to their first Cymru Premier title.

Horan’s leadership throughout the season was paramount to the Nomads’ success.

Priestley Farquharson

Horan’s centre-back partner, Priestley Farquharson has impressed for Andy Morrison’s side this season, featuring 19 times and scoring twice.

The 23 year-old’s form has not only earned him a place in the Cymru Premier Team of the Season, but has also attracted interest for his signature, with reports linking the defender with a move to Belgian side Oostende.

Chris Marriott

The New Saints’ left-back, Chris Marriott, is one of four Saints to be named in the Team of the Season.

The experienced full-back made 16 appearances for Scott Ruscoe’s side, as they finished second, securing a place in next season’s Europa League.

Jamie Mullan

Another Saint to be included is Jamie Mullan.

The Nottingham-born winger’s creativity contributed to Greg Draper’s impressive goal tally of 18.

Callum Morris

The Nomads’ Callum Morris is part of a central-midfield partnership in the Team of the Season.

Morris was a key part of Morrison’s side, contributing three goals and proving to be a dominant figure in the middle of the field.

Aeron Edwards

Scoring six times from midfield, Aeron Edwards had yet another successful season in the Cymru Premier.

The midfielder has since made the switch from The New Saints to title rivals Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Ryan Brobbel

The New Saints’ creative talisman Ryan Brobbel recorded six goals and nine assists this term.

Brobbel was also named in the Team of the Season in the 2016-2017 season.

Michael Wilde

The striker scored nine goals for the Nomads, and provided experience while leading the line with distinction.

Chris Venables

The striker scored 22 goals to earn the Golden Boot, averaging a goal every 102 minutes.

Substitutes

Alex Ramsay

Caernarfon Town’s goalkeeper, Alex Ramsay earns a place in the Team of the Season’s substitutes.

Ramsay has since signed for fellow Cymru Premier club Bala Town.

Nathan Peate

Widely regarded by Cymru Premier fans as a reliable defender, Nathan Peate had a positive season for Cefn Druids.

Like Ramsay, Peate has also signed for Colin Caton’s Bala Town this summer.

Chris Hugh

One of two Barry Town United players to be included in the Team of the Season’s substitutes is Chris Hugh.

The left-back’s form for the Linnets earned him a place in Mark Jones’ Wales C squad to face England C back in March.

Clayton Green

Green had another impressive season in the Linnets midfield, scoring four times in 21 appearances as the Jenner Park outfit finished fourth.

In the process, Gavin Chesterfield’s side secured qualification for next season’s Europa League.

Darren Thomas

Caernarfon Town’s talisman Darren Thomas netted an impressive seven goals for the Cofis, as they achieved a top-six finish.

Nicknamed the Cofi Messi, the 33-year-old  was also awarded Goal of the Season for his outstanding effort in the Welsh Cup victory over Ammanford.
