Neco Williams is set to become the fifth Welshman to earn a Premier League winners’ medal.

The Liverpool defender, who has made four appearances in the Premier League this season, will make his fifth on Saturday afternoon after he was named in the Reds’ starting line-up for their clash against Burnley.

After clinching the title following Chelsea’s 2-1 win over second-placed Manchester City last month, it was unclear whether the youngster would receive a medal due to a Premier League ruling.

The rule states that players must play a minimum of five league games to qualify for a league winners’ medal, but Williams has now reached that number after Jurgen Klopp handed him his second consecutive start against the Clarets.

Liverpool boss Klopp previously said he wouldn’t dish out league matches “just for fun” to the youngsters in the Reds’ ranks, with Harvey Elliot and Curtis Jones also in contention to pick up a medal by featuring in five league games before the end of the season.

Williams, who is yet to make a senior appearance for Wales under Ryan Giggs, will become the fifth Welshman – alongside Andy King, Mark Hughes, Clayton Blackmore and Giggs – to lift the Premier League title.

The full-back’s fifth league appearance for the champions comes after he featured against Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Brighton.

Williams will be hoping to help Klopp’s side towards surpassing the 100-point mark with victory over Burnley, with the Reds needing three wins from their remaining four matches to eclipse Manchester City’s record of 100 league points in a single season.
