Gresford to temporarily play at Airbus UK’s Airfield
Gresford Athletic have announced that they are to stage their home matches at The Airfield for the 2020/21 season.
They will groundshare with Airbus UK Broughton for the 2020/21 season, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
This sees the club temporarily move away from Clappers Lane to The Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
A club statement released on their website read: “Unfortunately, the club have found that Clappers Lane proves be quite difficult to implement the requirements to be COVID-19 complaint, which means hosting home games for the 2020/21 season would have been a struggle.
“Fellow JD Cymru North club Airbus UK Broughton have provided a very much appreciated lifeline, allowing the two clubs to groundshare for the 2020/21 season.
“We want to give a massive thank you to Airbus UK Broughton for allowing the groundshare. Without their help, it would have been very difficult for us to play at home during the 2020/21 season.
“We are extremely grateful for their willingness, generosity and trust for us to use their facilities during these difficult times.
“Of course, this does not change the fact that all of our games will be played behind closed doors until further notice, due to COVID-19. The move is simply to allow the club to play COVID-19 compliant home games during the 2020/21 season.
“We look forward to getting underway in the 2020/21 JD Cymru North at our new temporary home!”
Both Airbus UK and Gresford Athletic were drawn to be home on the opening weekend of the season.
The Wingmakers, relegated from the Cymru Premier, host Conwy Borough, meanwhile Gresford, under the leadership of Eddie Maurice-Jones, host Llanrhaeadr.
