Robyn Pinder returns as Cardiff Met sign up four players for WPWL return

Robyn Pinder has returned to Cardiff Met alongside three new players as they aim for a seventh Welsh Premier Women’s League title.

Pinder returns to the Met with three new players joining her, including Keynsham Town teammate Amber Roberts.

Annabel Sweeney and Elianna Chavez have moved from the States to the South Wales capital as they drew on their experience from St. Edward’s University.

Pinder, who left the club for Keynsham Town in 2020, made a triumphant return as she scored in their 4-0 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel on Sunday.

Prior to rejoining the club for another spell, the 27-year-old was involved in the Met side that finished second in Group Three of the Women’s Champions League in 2019/20, becoming the most successful Welsh team in the tournament’s history.

She was also involved last season, scoring eight goals in the league before it was curtailed due to the Coronavirus.

Amber Roberts has also joined Pinder at Cyncoed Campus after making the same move from FA Women’s National League South side Keynsham Town Ladies.

“I was looking for a new team and Robyn (Pinder) said she was returning to the club and how great the setup was so she put me in touch with the club,” said Roberts on her decision to join the Met.

Roberts has previously played for Oxford United and Reading’s academy before she joined Keynsham.

Her season in England was put on hold after only seven games when the league was cut off due to Covid-19.

Kerry Harris’ side have also added two Americans to their ranks having had an influx of players from the states in previous years.

Goalkeeper Sweeney could be seen as a direct replacement for Estelle Randell who left the Archers in January.

In her four years at SEU, she played 48 times making 132 saves and keeping 16 clean sheets.

Another signing from the States is midfielder Elianna Chavez, who can operate in various roles in attack.

During Chavez’s three and a half years playing NCAA football, she made 60 appearances, scoring 13 and providing nine assists from midfield.
