Cardiff Met remain top of the Welsh Premier Women’s League in a dominant display at Old Road.

Goals from Erin Murray and the returning Robyn Pinder put the visitors in the driving seat in the first half, despite a sturdy performance from the hosts.

Met remain ahead of Swansea City on goal difference, however, they have played a game more than their title rivals, meanwhile Briton Ferry sit in seventh.

Cardiff Met got things underway at Old Road and looked the stronger side from the start as they took control from the off.

It didn’t take the visitors long to open the scoring through the retuning Pinder just before the quarter-hour mark.

Murray’s initial strike was saved by Courtney Young, but the former captain pounced quickest on the rebound and slotted home to put her side in front.

Briton Ferry were able to restrict Met to a handful of chances, but as the half progressed, Kerry Harris’ side grew into the game and looked more dangerous.

After half-an-hour of action, the Archers doubled their lead. Erin Murray fired past Young from close range after a perfect delivery from the right.

They had the ball in the back of the net again moments later, Murray played in Pinder for what would have been her second, but the flag was raised for offside.

A change in the system at half time saw Caitlin Owen moved out wide and Chelsea Deacon played through the middle which allowed Ferry to get more touches on the ball high up the pitch.

Amber Roberts entered the field for her debut just before the sixtieth minute replacing fellow new signing and former Keynsham Town player Pinder.

On 65 minutes, Ellie Preece was introduced for her WPWL debut as she replaced Shannon Evans, who before today had been top scorer.

They awarded a second debut to American shot-stopper Annabel Sweeney as she replaced Charlotte Smith between the sticks for the last quarter of the match.

It was Preece who got Met’s third five minutes from time, firing past Young into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

She quickly grabbed her second from the bench in stoppage time, receiving a Sophie Hancocks pass before slotting past Young again for her fourth goal in Met colours, and their fourth of the afternoon.
