Twelve clubs have applied for the FAW’s Tier One Certificate which would make them eligible for promotion to the Cymru Premier.

Entry to the Cymru Premier is reliant on clubs possessing the certificate which is based on elements such as Infrastructure, Legal, Personnel & Administration, Financial and Sporting (Youth and Coaching).

Despite the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, all 12 clubs feel capable of meeting the neccessary requirements to play in the Welsh top flight.

For the first time since the introduction of licencing in Wales, more teams from the South have applied.

Seven teams from the Cymru South have put themselves forward compared to five in the Cymru North.

Carmarthen Town, who were relegated last season have applied in the hope of an immediate return to the Welsh top flight.

Swansea University, who were the 2019/20 winners of the Cymru South, have applied after failing to attain the certificate last year, which saw Haverfordwest County take their place.

They have been joined by Llanelli Town, who had also been in the league in recent years.

Ammanford, who recently signed Swansea City legend Leon Britton are also amongst the applicants alongside Briton Ferry Llansawel, Cambrian & Clydach Vale, and Taffs Well.

In the North, Airbus UK are hoping to return to the league after their relegation last season.

Prestatyn Town, who won the 2019/20 Cymru North, have also applied for a spot in the league, after failing to secure the certificate last year.

Bangor City and Llandudno have put themselves forward also as well as Colwyn Bay, who have never played in the Welsh top flight.

Despite their applications, they may only prove fruitful if the 2020/21 campaign is allowed to begin. The season has already been shortened to 15 matches.

The National Sports Group will meet this evening to discuss whether the second tier will have its elite status reinstated.

Cymru North applicants: Airbus UK, Bangor City, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, and Prestatyn Town.

Cymru South applicants: Ammanford, Briton Ferry Llansawel, Carmarthen Town, Cambrian & Clydach Vale, Llanelli Town, Swansea University, and Taffs Well.
