Wales defender Esther Morgan has signed her first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
The contract will run until June 2022 with an option to extend the deal for another year.
It’s been a year to remember for the 18-year-old who made both her Women’s Super League and international debut.
Morgan’s maiden Wales appearance came as a substitute against Canada at Leckwith Stadium when she replaced Lily Woodham.
The life-long Spurs fan told the club’s website about her pride at signing her first professional contract for the Club.
“It’s a very proud moment for me and my family. It’s a dream come true.
“Going through the pathway as well, it was amazing for me to even be given the opportunity and it’s testament to how good the Academy structure is here. I can’t wait to see how far we can go as a team.”
Morgan made her Spurs debut in February against Everton before enjoying an eight-game streak in Rehanne Skinner‘s first team, including a full 90 minutes in the North London Derby.
Prior to making her senior Wales debut in April, the defender captained Wales U19s.
The defender’s first senior call up came in November 2020, but she did not feature in Wales’ 3-0 win over Belarus.
Before rejoining Tottenham at the start of this season, Morgan spent time in the youth set-ups at Millwall and Chelsea.
This season under new head coach Skinner – a former Wales coach herself – Spurs finished eighth in the WSL, eight points clear of relegation.
On Sunday, they reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup after beating Sheffield United 2-1.
Morgan is one of three Welsh players at Tottenham along with Josie Green and Anna Filbey, who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Celtic.
