Welshman Rhys Carr leaves youth role at Sheffield United

Welshman Rhys Carr has left his role as Individual Development Coach at Sheffield United.

Carr, who had worked with the youth sides of the relegated Premier League side, leaves his role due to family commitments.

The 35-year-old worked with the Under-23 and Under-18 sides for training sessions and matches.

Announcing his departure from Bramall Lane, Carr said: “My time at Sheffield United has come to an end. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here but ultimately with a wife and young family still based in South Wales, I have made the decision that I need to be around for them more than I have been.

“A massive thank you to Jack Lester for the opportunity to be a part of the club for the last two years.

“I can honestly say the environment for developing players is outstanding and it has been a privilege to be a part of that.

He added: “There are some hugely talented young players coming through right throughout the age groups and this has been highlighted this season by winning leagues, several Premier League debuts, and eight international call-ups at youth and senior level.

“I would like to wish all the players and staff the very best of luck for the future. I want to get straight back in so I am looking forward to seeing what challenge presents itself to me next.”

Prior to joining the Blades, Carr spent five years at Bristol City, working as both Head of Fitness and then as first-team development coach.

Carr also worked at both Cardiff City and Swansea City during the earlier stages of his coaching career.

As well as coaching, Carr previously played in the Welsh League. 

He played for Cardiff Grange Quins and Llanelli in the Cymru Premier, as well as featuring for Pontypridd Town.
