Ben Murphy opts to stand down as manager of Abergavenny Town

Ben Murphy has taken the decision to step down as manager of Abergavenny Town.
He stands down from a role that he took up 18 months ago but has found difficult to carry out, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Murphy was limited to managing the Pennies to just a handful of competitive games in the Welsh League before the season was curtailed in March.
The entire 2020/21 campaign was mothballed, meaning his only other matches in charge have been friendly matches.
Announcing the news on social media, he said: “I have decided to step down as manager of Abergavenny Town.
“I am absolutely gutted that it has ended but it was a decision that needed to be made for myself and the club.
“There are multiple reasons for the decision which will remain private but I would like to thank the committee for giving me the opportunity at such a fantastic club.
He added: “I would also like to thank the players for all the effort they gave me during my time there.
“They are such a fantastic group of lads with huge potential. We started making some excellent progress but unfortunately, COVID struck when we were starting to build some momentum.
“Best of luck to a fantastic club for the future.”
The Monmouthshire side begin their competitive season next week, they have been drawn against New Inn in Round One of Qualifying for the Welsh Cup.
They are also involved in the FAW Trophy, playing Nantyglo a week later before beginning the inaugural season of the Ardal League South East, where they will host Goytre at Pen-y-Pound Stadium.
