Bangor 1876 9-0 CPD Pentraeth: Citizens on Cloud Nine in opening day win

CPD Bangor 1876 begin their North Wales Coast League West campaign at home to CPD Pentraeth at Treborth.

Competitive football returns to the phoenix club who are hoping to rise through the Welsh pyramid system.

Manager Mel Jones guided Bangor to the Gwynedd League title, going the entire league campaign unbeaten, however, it was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bangor had been applicants to join the new Ardal League structure but were not admitted. They will now hope to win the title and claim a second consecutive promotion.

In their ranks is the returning Les Davies, who last season was at Flint Town United.

The Citizens go into this having defeated Nefyn United in a friendly on Monday evening.

Up to 100 spectators are permitted to attend after the club was the first to host spectators for the first time since March 2020. They have since been used in the FAW’s promotional video to help clubs with restrictions.

Pentraeth had been on the search for a new manager following the exit of Mat Parry in May, citing work and other ongoing commitments as the reason for the departure.

Their last known friendly result was a defeat to Amlwch Town later on in that month.
