Conwy Borough appoint former Rhyl and Hednesford Town coach as manager

Conwy Borough have moved swiftly to appoint Ronnie Green as their new manager following the departure of Simon Allen.
Allen’s exit was announced on Tuesday, with the club confirming Green’s appointment the following morning as they look to continue preparations for the season ahead.
The new boss has already taken his first training session with the squad and has made an immediate impact at the club.
Green arrives after successful spell alongside Paul Moore
Green brings considerable coaching experience with him, having worked alongside current Rhyl 1879 manager Paul Moore since November 2024.
The pair enjoyed a hugely successful campaign together, guiding Rhyl 1879 to the Ardal North West League title just five months after Green joined the coaching staff.
Their partnership continued following promotion to the Cymru North last season, with 1879 finishing fifth in their first campaign at the level.
They also enjoyed an impressive run in the Welsh Cup, reaching the semi-finals before their campaign came to an end.
Green has also previously worked alongside Moore at Hednesford Town.
Conwy welcomes ‘experienced and highly respected’ coach
Green takes over from Allen, who had been in charge of Conwy Borough since November 2024.
The club said Allen had stepped down in order to devote more time to his personal commitments.
In welcoming Green to the club, Conwy Borough highlighted his experience across both the Welsh and English football pyramid.
A club statement read: “Ronnie joins us as an experienced and highly respected coach, bringing an excellent coaching background and a wealth of knowledge from across the Welsh and English football pyramid.
“We’re confident that Ronnie’s experience, coaching insight and leadership will provide a strong platform as we continue to develop and progress the first team.
“Welcome to Conwy Borough, Ronnie – we’re delighted to have you with us!”
Green now gets to work with the squad as Conwy Borough continue their preparations for the season ahead.
The team Green inherits and his first five games
Green inherits a Conwy Borough side currently sitting second from the bottom of the North Wales Coast League, although there is plenty of context behind their early position.
Borough have played just three league games so far, with their progress in the Welsh Cup and Amateur Trophy contributing to a disrupted start to their league campaign.
Allen’s final game in charge ended in a 3-1 defeat to Rhos United, before Callum Chambers took charge for last Saturday’s Welsh Cup first-round tie against Llannefydd.
Conwy have also made progress in the Amateur Trophy, knocking out Nefyn United, giving Green the chance to build on a season that has already seen the club involved in several cup competitions.
Green’s first five games in charge
The new manager’s first test comes quickly, with a NWCFA Intermediate Challenge Cup tie against Cerrigydrudion on September 26.
That is followed by an Amateur Trophy clash with Llysfaen on October 3, before Green’s first run of league fixtures gets under way.
Conwy face Cerrigydrudion again on October 10, followed by a trip to Llansannan on October 17.
Green’s first five games in charge are completed with the visit of Llanfairfechan Town on October 24.
